: Does this mean that there was once a God?
: Is it a belief that there never was a God?
: Or does someone say this to describe the uncaring, blind God?

When Nietzsche said "God is dead," he meant, more or less, that people's beliefs and values were becoming more secular. I typed "nietzsche god dead" into Google and got lots of links. The one below connects with an interpretation of the saying. If the link disappears because somebody posts a follow-up, this is the URL:

When people today say "God is dead," they might mean any number of things. Sometimes it's a dramatic way of saying "I don't believe, and religion has failed us."
