Copyright and Intellectual Property
We take copyright and intellectual property rights seriously and respect the rights of others. Phrases.org.uk is a long-standing reference site, and much of its material has been contributed or carried over from earlier versions of the site across three decades. Our intention is that all images and other media published here are either owned by us, properly licensed, in the public domain, or used with permission.
How we source images. The images used across the site are drawn from a small number of clearly-permissioned sources: public-domain artworks from open cultural collections such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Open Access programme and the public-domain holdings of Wikimedia Commons; graphics, charts and diagrams we have created ourselves; our own brand assets; and material we are otherwise licensed to use. As part of an ongoing review we have removed legacy imagery whose provenance we could not confirm, and we retain an internal record of anything removed. If you believe an image has slipped through this process, please tell us using the steps below and we will act on it promptly.
If you are a rights holder and believe that any content on this website infringes your copyright or other rights, please contact us using the details below and include: (1) identification of the specific work you believe is infringed; (2) the exact URL(s) where it appears on this site; (3) evidence of your ownership or authority to act on the rights holder's behalf; and (4) your contact details. We will review every good-faith notice promptly and, where a valid concern is raised, remove or replace the material without delay. Removal of content following such a notice is not an admission of liability.
