Fat and happy

I have been searching for the origin or meaning of the phrase fat and happy. I cannot find anything. Does anyone have an idea of where I can find this info?

I heard it in the 1970s. And it meant unaware of some pending problem. "Here I sat fat and happy while my partner was draining my bank account."
