"someones put a lot of hay down"

The midwest part of the US has provided a lot of colorful expressions. The close-to-the-earth agriculture background leads to some wonderful expressions. --- One of my favorites --- when it is obvious that someone has done a lot of preparation for an event or occasion it is said that "someone's put a lot of hay down".
Is this used anywhere else in the civilized world?

I can't speak for the civilized world, but out here in California I've never heard that one, even though my parents came from the Midwest.

W.Va. and Kentucky -- I don't remember hearing that phrase. I'll ask some of my aggy buddies.

Never heard of it here in Detroit, Michigan.
