: Does anyone know the orgin of this phrase. It is one handed down in my family for several generations. I'm guessing it was once used in England, Scotland, or Ireland. I've never met anyone who has ever even heard this expression. Thanks, Kwannon

I couldn't find "fludgens" in the Oxford English Dictionary, usually a good source for obsolete or regional words--tried several variant spellings, too.
