Help? Can someone tell me the origin of the term Monkey Ward as it relates to Montgomery Ward Store? Any help would be appreciated. Terry

I've heard it (a store) called Monkey Wards since the 1950s. But I don't know who said it first.

I remember that from the 1950s too. I think the nickname came about because the company used the form "Montgy. Ward" or "Montg'y Ward" in its advertising.
