"suffering crows"

Anyone know the origin of the expression "suffering crows"?

Or why the Wall of the crow was so named?

I've been unable to track down "suffering crows" thus far, but I've found a number of sites devoted to crows and their kin. They're more interesting than I thought, which, come to think of it, is a phenomenon I encounter almost every day.....
