Got me hangin'

My mom used to say, "Got me hangin'" (emphasis on the "me") to say "I don't know." She doesn't know where it came from or why she started saying it. Has anyone else heard this?

She was raised in Detroit, Michigan in the 1950s and 1960s.

Yeah, we used to say it in New Jersey from the 1970's into the 80's (I was born in 1960). The variation "got me swingin'" was more popular, as I recall, and may have come later, though both versions coexisted for a time. I have no idea how, when, or where it may have started.
