A gentleman has just pulled my cork

I recently heard the phrase "A gentleman has just pulled my cork." I have some vague recollection that "pulling someone's cork" is not unlike "cleaning someone's clock" or giving someone a good thrashing, but I may be completely wrong. I am curious to know what it means. Many thanks.
