Well, strictly speaking, it doesn't come from anywhere: it is one of the most widespread misquotations.

The original comes - as do so many things - from the Bible, Proverbs 16:18 to be precise, which in the King James Version has:

'Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.'
