Origin of meaning to phrase "here goes nothing". Thank you in advance! Great site. I use it 'oh so often. (Not sure how to write that). First time poster. I can't believe you guys haven't gotten this one yet!

"Here goes!" dates back to 1829. (Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings by Gregory Y. Titelman, Random House, New York, 1996.Page 134.) Also learned that "Here's how!" was a toast during the U.S. Civil War. I couldn't find "Here goes nothing."
