Drama queen

One reference says "drama queen" has its origins in the gay community during the 1960s. Cassell's Dictionary of Slang by Jonathon Green (Wellington House, London, 1998). Page 368. I am guessing that it originally referred to an actress. I got that idea from a recently acquired refrigerator magnet -- a picture of Joan Crawford and the words "drama queen."
