All bogged down

I am wondering about the origin of the phrase "all bogged down".

Presumably it arose from the fact that something travelling across a bog is liable to become stuck in the mud - or at least, considerably slowed down by it.

So if one is 'bogged down' one is finding it difficult to do whatever it is one is trying to do.
