Why do they call it a "play action pass" in American football?

Beats me. It's a "play" with "action" and a "pass" in it but there's action in almost every football play. Also called "play action fake" because it's a fake handoff that's really a pass play. "Hail Mary" and "Statue of Liberty" are easy to figure out, but "play action" is really kinda bland, so who knows?
