Ol' kid...
My dad used to say "ol kid ol sock o bean" as well. We said it too. How are you ol kid ol sock o bean? But I never knew what it meant besides a term of endearment...
How about "you old bumpershoot"
There is a discussion of "old kid, old sock, old bean" in the Archive, from 2005. Go to:www.phrases.org.uk bulletin_board 42 messages 444.html
As for "you old bumbershoot," I don't know why anyone would call a friend an "old umbrella" (bumbershoot).
SS
["old bumpershoot" - maybe rhyming slang for "old boot," from "old beaut[y]," as a general term of endearment. -Bac.]
