Now I'm getting to grips.

Then is it okay for me to change the following sentence like this:

"It was a dream come true. " --- " It was a dream that HAD COME true."

Is it ok? Sure. But nobody will misunderstand if you leave it. The phrase is conventionally shortened that way.
