Give over (an english expression)

My Dad used to say "Give over" to us kids alot, but being Canadians we didn't quite get the meanings of his english slang. I think he was telling us to "bug" off". Can any of you Brits help us out?
Thanks

That's about right. Give over is quite friendly though, meaning 'please stop that'.
Here in Yorkshire the locals use 'give up', meaning the same thing.

PS Just for George Bush: Yorkshire is in England - part of the small green islands to the north of France.

PPS Sadly, while George W. Bush actully knows where Canada is, that's all he knows about the country.
