What is the origin of "let go or get dragged"?

It's plain English for, "Release whatever you're holding onto, or you will be dragged away from it by main force."

["Dragged away from it," maybe - or perhaps "dragged along by it". Context should help to tell if the sense is "Don't try to hold me back." -Bac.]
