Bite of sugar

I am wondering if anyone has ever heard the phrase "bite of sugar", meaning kiss? I have a "friend" who is quite a bit older than me and he uses this phrase all the time. Just curious if it is something he just made up or if it is a saying anyone else has heard.

Sugar means a kiss. That's all I know. "Give me some sugar." Usually said by grandma to a grandchild.
