tin ear (noun) 1935 -- a deafened or insensitive ear. (Merriam-Webster)

I have usually heard the phrase "have a tin ear" used to mean tone-deafness or insensitivity to music. "Don't you just love this song?" "I'm sorry, I have a tin ear."
