Looking for the origins of the phrase "sorry I blew up" (sarcastic).

One source says the origin of "blow your top" is probably an allusion to "an oil well that blows as a gusher." Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable revised by Adrian Room (HarperCollinsPublishers, New York, 1999, Sixteenth Edition). Page 163.
