I would like to know if anyone can help me to figure out the meaning of the phrase: "look like 1989".

Context: It 's a tv program about fashion and the presenter says: "Ladies, tired of looking like 1989?"
In the program the guests will go through a series of fashion transformations.

It's quite literal. Fashion has changed and if you still look like you did almost 20 years ago, you're in need of a transformation.
