: dark corners of the night

This image appears to be rather popular, popular enough to be used as the title of a book by Lionel Olay, as well as more casually in numerous other places. The phrase conveys an image full of emotional charge. The night itself doesn't really have corners, but in the darkness of night we can imagine corners, by their nature dark and ominous, possibly populated by frightening figures of our imagination.
