: I have a vague memory of the phrase "reaping the whirlwind," but I cannot remember if I have it exactly right or what its origin is.
From the Bible Gateway: Hosea 8:7
"They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up."
If you want to know more about the context, read the rest of Hosea. I think it means "be careful what you sow." SS
