"have ones arse handed to them"

Hi everyone.
Does anybody know the origin of the expression to "have ones arse handed to them" please? This bizzare one totally defies me. The image is pretty funny too.

I guess the image of of someone ripping your a** off and handing it to your. Along the same lines as having someone hand you your head.
