Well salt me Bob
My ex-boss used to use the expression "Well salt me Bob" as an expression of surprise, I never got around to asking her where it came from, but now my brother has picked up the same espression from somewhere, but again does not know the origin. Can anyone help?
It could possibly be a mis-hearing of "swelp me Bob", which used to be quite common in SE England. "Swelp" is the Cockney pronunciation of "So help", and "Bob" is, or used to be, a euphemism for "God" in mild oaths (like saying "Jeepers" for "Jesus".
