I hope that you are referring to a saying of which your quoted words form a part--a saying with which I am completely unfamiliar. As for sounding fit on the phone, in my part of the U.S. of A., "fit" means "in good physical condition," or "buff." It's a mystery to me how that can be conveyed on the phone, although someone who is feeble might easily sound that way. SS
