Studley Dudley

I lived in England for a short while, people called me "Studley Dudley". What does that mean? I guess this must be a very British expression. Something to do with the place Dudley?

Memory is dim, but I believe that it was a catch phrase on radio years ago - a bit like Jimmy Edwards' 'gently, Bently'. Thus, just rhyming slang.
