Does the phrase "my salad days" refer only to youth or circumstances?

Acc. to the OED, your salad days would be your days "of youthful inexperience." Its earlies citation: 1606 SHAKES. Ant. & Cl. I. v. 73 My *Sallad dayes, When I was greene in iudgement, cold in blood. SS
