rinky dink was a'incidental music jingle theme' used by dave lee travis to introduce his dlt show on radio 1 during the 60s/70s.

According to the OED, the first printed reference occured back in 1912.

It means "Something that is worn out or antiquated; a worthless object. spec. a cheap place of entertainment. Also in phr. to give (someone) the rinky-dink and varr., to cheat or swindle (someone)."

Wow. You got the OED. Nice.

The theme to the 'Pink Panther' cartoon show (you can tell I'm an intellectual, can't you?) contained the line 'The rinky-dink panther', or was this simply because it rhymes with pink?
