Happy Holidays (and) Seasons Greetings

please, can anyone tell me the originis of the phrases:

Happy Holidays

and Seasons Greetings

thank you!

Good question. But I haven't been able to find the answer yet. These phrases would, I am guessing, been created when Christmas went secular.

The old phrase, Merry Christmas, has become politically incorrect in the States. Decorations in stores and public places now are "Holidays" oriented. There seems to be a extensive lack of tolerance that value loads these phrases and brings forth this very flat language.
