Flaw in the slaw

Posted by ESC on December 16, 2004

FLAW IN THE SLAW -- A problem. Similar to a "fly in the ointment."

A coworker (Kentucky woman, age 40-something) said it the other day. It was new to me. She said her husband, a Kentucky man, 40-something, uses the phrase. Now I've seen the phrase in print as a headline in a Kentucky university newspaper: "Flaws in Dr. Foster's slaw".

Slaw = coleslaw. A dish made with chopped or shredded cabbage.
