"peas(?) above sticks"

does anyone know where this saying comes from? and is it PEAS or PEASE??

Maybe it's 'peace'. The message being non-violence would be preferred over violence.

could be, but I believe the saying means someone who is "getting above their station" maybe is a northern thing??
