Kick on the shins, doggone my shins (american slang)

the exression 'kick on the shins' is common in football and other sports but I guess 'doggone my shins' its more like american slang, probably from baseball or american football but that is a wild shot, any ideas of meaning and origin on the second one?

I'm in the U.S. I've never heard "doggone my shins." But I'm not into sports.

As an athlete for many years and presently as a coach, I have never heard this expression. Can you give more detail, context, locale of the usage etc.?
