Align

Hi to everyone,

What is the meaning of the *align* below?

-Love means having to *align* yourself with another person, and what if theat person turns out to be a liabiltiy

=align=to conform? to obey?

I think it means to join forces with; eg, many republicans have aligned themselves with the neoconservatives--an obvious liability
