1. What 'to bowl a hoop' means? To play hula hoop or (like)to roll a wheel?

2. Sometimes she wouldn't let the spoon go; and sometimes, just as Bertha had filled it, she waved it away to *the four winds*.
What are 'the four winds'? [Bertha's feeding a baby. she = a baby]

3. He made a point of *catching Bertha's heels* with replies of that kind...

If you go to Bible Gateway (advanced search) bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible and type in four winds (no quotes), you'll see that there are several references to "four winds" in the Bible. North, South, East and West winds, I assume.

Jeremiah 49
