A man did sth wrong to a girl ... he begged her to forgive him ... and she said:

"It depends upon-a good deal whether I ever forgive you."

What this means? Did she forgive? ... Thank you.

This is from a short story. The man kissed the girl in front of the other man - he didn't realize there was a third party there. Unfortunately, that man was her target (he was rich). And she worried about this guy so.
