Underwhelmed?

I looked up several definitions of 'whelmed'. And it appears to mean overcome, etc. So if 'whelmed' is 'overcome', then is overwhelmed tautology?

Reminds me of the recent discussion of 'flammable' and 'inflammable.'

I have often been underwhelmed by things that happen each day.
