What is the origin and meaning of the phrase 'Après moi le Deluge' - not the simple translation.

This is way over my head. That's just a comment, not the translation. The best I can do is "apres nous le deluge, lit., after us the deluge: a premonition of impending political and social collapse attributed to Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of Louis XV."
