: I believe this phrase has been in use for at least 50 years in the UK - but when and where did it originate?

This phrase is quite widely used and well understood but it's acquired pariah status insofar as many people will neither use it, nor recognize its use, for fear of standing accused of being anti-Semitic. I suspect it's as old as the pork pie.
