I don't think you have quoted the phrase correctly. If you have, then I've never heard of it.

Just a guess; modus operandi - pl. mo·di operandi - often abbreviated to MO
1. A method of operating or functioning.
2. A person's manner of working.
Often used by the police to describe how a criminal has carried out a crime.
