Wired for sound

Anyone know the origin and meaning of the term, "Wired for sound"?

Well, it was a single for Cliff Richard 20-odd years ago. I had not heard the expression before that, but it meant to be wearing a 'walkman' or other personal stereo - so it must have been fairly contemporaneous to those devices first becoming popular.

"Wired for sound" (or just "wired") also has a meaning in drug slang: to be very high on amphetamines.
