Meaning?

Ok where did the phrase, "Run like a scalded dog" originate. I once heard it was something about pigs....

People used to butcher and scald the hair off hogs outdoors. Maybe a dog was accidentally scalded. That's the only connection I can come up with.

It's a 'scalded cat' in Britain. Don't ask me why!
