Thick in the head and strong in the back

I'm an italin girl. I'm translating an irish short story, and I need your help!
What does it mean -in your mind- the sentence "thick in the head and strong in the back"??

It means that the person is not very smart but is awfully strong and capable of getting the job done without thinking about it.
