A tosser in the UK is a bit of a jerk or an idiot. Any idea who or what is being tossed? Could it be rhyming slang?

Slang certainly but not rhyming. I can't think of a delicate way of saying that in the UK male masturbation is known as tossing off.

Well gosh, I should have seen that coming. I still don't get the tossing part, but maybe I'm being too literal.

I think it comes from the expression 'tossing and turning' meaning to move about in sleep. I think that meant tossing off the bedclothes. I suppose the coarser meaning may be something to do with the trajectory of unimpeded ejaculate.
