Gruding and dismissive
Hi,
Could anyone help me with the bracketed sentence?
(Insofar as acknowledgement is given to entertainment features in the press, this tends to be grudging and dismissive), as if such contenct detracts from the central political role and purpose of the press.

Dismissive - rejecting serious consideration of
Entertainment stories are considered frivolous, just something to amuse the masses. Not important compared to "hard news" about politics, etc.
