Here's a link to an interesting article about language from the Canadian National Post. It ponders split infinitives, phatic speech and other sins of non-strandard English.

"I used to be a language bully. When I was in university, my friends and I thought attacking everything that came out of people's mouths..."

I've also heard "language snot."
