". . . in the sink"
Has anyone heard the expression "in the sink" added to a phrase to add emphasis. In the 1940s in Saskatchewan "For crying out loud in the sink" was an expression of exasperation used by my wife's mother.
That's a new one. I like it! I'm not sure why, but the phrase reminds me of the Maine expressions that Stephen King uses in his novels.
Not to be confused with "the kitchen sink," one entry in the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary notes "a place where vice, corruption or evil exists." Thus the expression "Crying out loud in Hades" would make sense.
