Thin end of the wedge

A bad decision leads to more bad decisions simultaneously closing off avenues of solution until nothing is left but bad options.

What's this called? Its similar to, but not excatly the same as, a downward spiral.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Painting oneself into a corner? A domino effect?

a slippery slope?

Going into a decline?

The beginning of the end?

The thin end of the wedge?

Death spiral. Circling the drain. Follow a bad shot with a dumb shot. (Golf.) (Specifically, my normal golf mentality.) In quicksand. In a quagmire. (Quagmire is the word usually invoked when describing a foolish step into a bad situation that only grows worse as you get deeper in the mud. It was/is often used in connection with the U.S. involvement in Viet Nam; years from now it will be used in connection with the U.S. cowboy invasion of Iraq.
