"On Song"

Can anyone tell me where the term "On Song" comes from and where it originated. I have seen sports reporters using it on occasion.

I think it refers to an engine, Ofte used to power some form of competetive vehicle. When properly tuned and running sweetly, it sounds perfect - it's 'on song'.
